This is a bit odd. I am looking for someone who called about Pony Camp.
I only heard her name over the phone and so am unsure of spelling.
"Lisa Stompierre" is as close as I can come to spelling it correctly.
I accidently copy/pasted over her name in my database. Ugh!
If you know (or are) this person, please call again. 919.542.0333 Thanks for any help,  Cecelia King, Screech Owl Farm School.

Hello friends,

The situation with pet food recalls is becoming extremely serious: it looks like there is a problem also with some of the dry food. Here the last recall of Science Diet (Hills prescription diet.) FDA has received more than 8000 calls already. I am buying organic food and fresh meat to mix with rice and veggies for all my family. Any suggestion?

I hope that you and your creatures are all well.

Love,

Siglinda

Happy Jack Flea Beacon

Based on the light & heat principle, fleas are attracted to the light & heat generated by the light bulb underneath the top of the Flea Beacon. When the fleas jump for this source of light & heat, they rebound into the catch tray below which is covered with a sticky Gardstrip. This sticky material traps fleas. The Flea Beacon works best at night & can be moved from room to room for total indoor flea control. The Flea Beacon also breaks the breeding cycle by catching adult fleas before they have a chance to lay eggs.

They really work!

Here's a link to buy them that I found on the Internet, I'm sure they must be available other places - maybe even local hardware stores.

Subject: Paul Cuadros Reading . Durham County Library

If you missed out on hearing Paul Cuadros read from his book, A Home On the Field, you can still catch up with him at the beautiful, brand new North Regional Library in Durham. He will be reading on Friday, April 27th from 10-11 AM . 221 Milton Rd. off of North Roxboro. Free of charge. Call 919-560-0231 for information. Paul is from Chatham County, and so am I, although I am a librarian at Durham County Library. I hope that makes this Chathamcentric enough? See attached flyer for info. Hope to see you there.

Subject: Spring Exhibit- A Celebration of Art

" Celebration of Art" Art Exhibit April 3 - April 28

The Friends of the Pittsboro Memorial Library
(www.pittsborolibraryfriends.org) is pleased to present "Celebration of Art"
by five artists from Governors Club: Shirley Bacher, Betty Franklin Cohen, Karen Meredith, Carolyn Schrock, and Ginny Ware. The watercolor, pastel, and oil paintings will be on display through April in the Reeves Gallery at the library, 158 West St., Pittsboro (542-3524), during library hours (Mon 10-6, Tue10-8, Wed 10-6, Thu 10-6, Fri 10-6, Sat 9-5).

The public is invited to view the exhibit at the library and attend a reception to meet the artists at nearby Rosemary House Bed & Breakfast on Tuesday, April 3rd from 7 to 9 PM.

Diverse styles, media and techniques come together in a celebration of the artist in each of us. Five Governors Club artists share their unique and personal creative approaches:

Shirley Bacher's pastels are done in the style called "contemporary impressionism." "I do not wish my painting to look like a photograph and although I have experimented with abstract representation in the past, I would rather paint everyday scenes from the perspective of the marvelous ways light sometimes hides, sometimes illumines objects. I paint what I see." Shirley is a member of the Southeast Pastel Society and the Southeast Texas Pastel Society where her paintings have been accepted into their international juried shows.

Betty Franklin Cohen experimented with many mediums before deciding on watercolor as her main focus. "Painting landscapes and botanical subjects gives me a wonderful feeling of connection to the world of nature." A graduate of Rutgers University, Betty minored in art and archaeology and completed a two-year museum studies course. She received an MA from the Institute of Archaeology at the University of London where she combined her two major interests, archaeology and art, by illustrating archaeological sites and artifacts.

Karen Meredith enjoys working in oils and watercolors with the intent of emphasizing mood and celebrating color and light. "I've recently learned the joy of painting landscapes 'en plein air', for there is nothing like witnessing the rich colors of shadows and sunlight from direct experience."

Carolyn Schrock finds inspirations in North Carolina's blue skies and warm weather for her "plein air" paintings. "In my paintings I try to capture the essence of the subject using light and color. Like the impressionists, these are the most important influences in my pastel paintings. I work mainly outdoors from life and only use photographs for later reference in the studio. This and using pastels like paint brushes have allowed me to paint more freely".

Ginny Ware was first introduced to watercolors in a children's art class in Corvallis, Oregon. Many hours were spent painting in the studio and around the picturesque farm of a local artist. Many years later in Indianapolis, Indiana, after retiring from a career in health care, she was reintroduced to watercolor painting through evening classes with the inspirational and talented artist Sandy Ezell. With landscapes as her current favorite subject, Ginny continues to paint enjoying the challenge of painting on a variety of paper surfaces.

Works are available for purchase through the artists. A portion will be donated to the Friends of The Library New Library Fund.  For additional information about the exhibit, please contact Leslie Palmer at LesPalmer.aol.com.

Subject: Music Search

I've been fortunate to be working in the northern part of the area lately and have been able to receive WNCU jazz station on 90.7 fm. I heard a NC native from the mid 40s onward into the 60s by the name of Rosetta Thorp. Another program on UNC mentioned her in connection with a news story out of Hendersonville in the mountains. I'm hoping to find some recordings of her's. These would be in the gospel/r&b/blues genre and some of the most amazing examples of virtuosity I've heard. Any info or clues of where to search would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks all....greg6jones.netzero.net
